Power industry is one of the greatest producers of waste. The character of waste products from the power industry is quite different from waste arising from the other industrial sectors as concerns its composition, methods of removal and possibilities of use. There has been revealed within the solution of the project “The Resort Research Program in the Force of the Ministry of Environment” ref. no. SP2f3/118/08, bearing the name “the research of real properties of waste considered as an acceptable source of non-standard raw-materials (particularly the secondary by-products from the energy generation) in sense of actual legal requirements for the protection of health, environment and the evaluation of the acquired information for the determination of safety processes and requirements for their use”, that products used for the landscaping, in certain events do not fulfill requirements stipulated for the utilization of waste on the ground surface. It means that construction products made from remainders after the coal burning, being sold as safe, can contaminate the environment more than waste used for the same purpose.

Capacity factor of wind power plants in the Czech Republic according to different sources varies in a huge range from pessimistic “4–14 %” to the optimistic “up to 36 %”. The problem arises when via press releases of the ČTK (Czech Press Agency) erroneous data are distributed, which then influences the public debate.
In fact, the average annual capacity factor of the whole set of wind power plants in the Czech Republic is around 20 % or slightly above this level in the last five years. In the longer term the capacity factor increases, because newer wind farms have annual capacity factor about 25 %.
Pessimistic value of the capacity factor below 15 %, are in a better case based on outdated information, or on data from inconvenient installation locations or turbines with technical problems. In the worst case this involves a focused misinformation. If they are published by not direct opponents of wind energy, suggests such values, if they are considered to be related to the total production of electricity from wind in the Czech Republic, the ignorance of the issue.
Optimistic values around 25 % may be related to newer wind turbines in the Czech Republic. Values well above 25 % could be a data of individual wind turbines, results of a shorter period, or the expected results of future installations of which the rated power of the generator is less than would correspond to the size of the rotor.

The paper presents the derivation of calculating the real efficiency of gas boilers with single-stage atmospheric burner. The cause of looping are states when the minimum boiler output is several times higher than the required nominal heat output for heating. The looping of boiler reduces its operating efficiency.

An integral part of a building survey is determining the location of steel reinforcements in building construction elements made of reinforced concrete. In the last decade, GPR came as one of the standard diagnostic methods. However, the equipment used until recently was characterized by its complexity and lengthy measurements, evaluation of which required a considerably professionally knowledgeable staff. The turning point was Hilti PS 1000, a GPR intended for use by common technicians during building surveys. This contribution evaluates the first experience with its use.

The article discusses about the problem many facility managers deal with, the change of lightning in particular area by application of combination of modern technologies. The change of lightning was realized in high-rise building of University of Pardubice. The article describes project stages, their evaluation, from initial until the final, which closes the project by changing the lightning in the whole building in the year 2014. The solution is evaluated from the economic aspect, moreover the article also depicts the way how it was achieved - the way satisfying both employees and the management of the University.

This article describes a photovoltaic generator used for water heating and compares it with the well known solar thermal system. Photovoltaic modules can be connected to the load both directly or via a regulator that tracks the maximal power point of the modules. Measurements and simulations in meteorological conditions of Czech Republic were done to set the energy loss for a system without the regulator. It was found that without the regulator the system can deliver maximally 77 % of energy. To achieve high efficiency of the system, maximal power point tracking has to be used.

CO2

Ing. Bronislav Bechník, Ph.D.

The article is a commentary on Czech TV report about the feasibility of reducing CO2 in the atmosphere. To eliminate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere has been proposed a number of methods, many of which are currently at the stage of mere concept. Namely, this includes the artificial trees mentioned in the report. Even if such methods work, there still remains the question of what to do with the captured CO2. Storage in geological formations is uncertain and material recovery faces high energy demands. In some cases there is a misunderstanding resulting from the confusion of CO2 and other emissions. Namely on the facade, which allegedly eliminate CO2 from the air, but in fact it eliminates nitrogen oxides. The only reliable way to reduce CO2 emissions permanently is to reduce energy consumption.

Solar radiation can be utilised in two basic ways. You can either gain heat from solar thermal collectors or electricity in photovoltaic panels. So far, heating of water by photovoltaics was too expensive to compete with conventional solar thermal collectors.
Weight , durability , and currently even the price of solar thermal collectors is comparable with commercially available photovoltaic modules.
Annual energy yield per unit area is approximately twice in the solar thermal collectors compared to the highest quality photovoltaic modules with cells made of monocrystalline silicon, due to the higher efficiency.
In the summer the photovoltaic modules are better when the working fluid is heated to temperatures above 100 °C. In the winter the breaking point is about 40 °C. The advantage of photovoltaics is the absence of heat transfer fluid and easier transfer of energy produced to the point of use. Electricity can also be used more versatile than heat.
If the investment cost of a complete solution of heating water by electricity from photovoltaic panels, either directly or using a heat pump, is lower than the investment cost of the solar thermal system, the PV water heating can be considered as effective utilization of electricity from photovoltaic plants. Such a solution could then be included as an alternative to any grant support for solar water heating.

It is much more efficient to produce mechanical work by electrical engine "fuelled" by photovoltaic modules than produce the same amount of mechanical work by internal combustion engines running on fossil fuel or first-generation biofuel. The first choice could be much cheaper and produce order of magnitude more energy from agricultural land than biofuels. Therefore photovoltaics could hypothetically contribute significantly to the fulfillment of national and European target for the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in transportation.

In this time development of a security alarm and emergency systems is very important, mainly due to the ever increasing unemployment. It has increased since 2008 according to the Czech Statistical Office of the 4.44 % to 7.4 % which will lead to an increase in crime. For the last few years, although recorded crime reduced by 4 %, but its growth is predicted. This is also why your home, business or auto secure as possible. And because usually rule is that at a time when there is a new method of detection, there is a new way of sabotage and it still necessary to continue developing and improving current technology of intrusion and hold-up systems.

The Chamber of Deputies approved the stopping of subsidies (feed-in-tariff) for renewable energy sources beginning January 1 2014. Support for combined heat and power generation from fossil fuels and support combustion of waste based on the same legislation remained unchanged.
By the opinion of the Chamber of RES the provisions of the law requiring a proof of beneficiaries structure is insufficient "especially because it does not apply to owners up to 10% of the shares and efficiency is only proposed from 1 July 2014, which gives a disproportionately large space to conceal the ownership structure."
